History
A minor airstrip preceded the airport’s 1929 construction. In 1942, it was given the name McCarran Field in honour of U.S. Senator Pat McCarran. In order to handle the increasing number of travellers, the airport was extended throughout the 1950s and 1960s. McCarran International Airport became the name of the airport in 1978.
In 2010, the airport was given the new name Harry Reid International Airport in Senator Harry Reid’s honour. 2012 saw the official adoption of the new name.
Situation today
Major expansion work is presently being done at LAS Airport. The project entails building a new terminal, a new runway, and a new parking structure. It’s anticipated that the expansion will be finished in 2023.
