Engineering Consultancy Stantec Moving To New Manchester Hub At 100 Barbirolli Square

Engineering and design consultancy Stantec is moving into a new Manchester office at 100 Barbirolli Square as it prepares for more UK expansion.

The sustainability-focused firm is taking the seventh floor of the building near Bridgewater Hall from March and will movie staff from its existing offices in Oxford Street and Bridge Street. The group, which has 28,000 employees worldwide, says it has chosen Barbirolli Square “due to its flexibility to accommodate future growth”.

In the North West, Stantec works with developers and landowners as well as with public sector clients including Homes England and local authorities. It also works closely with United Utilities on futureproofing its water networks, and expects to grow its work in the water sector through its Manchester hub that will be home to engineers, planners, economists, ecologists, acousticians and designers.

Cath Schefer, Stantec’s global chief operating officer, said “With so many incredible projects in the pipeline, we need to ensure we attract the best talent across a variety of important disciplines.

“We know the next generation of engineers and designers prioritise wellbeing and inclusivity, while having a dynamic, flexible workplace. Our new Manchester office will be a lively and aspirational hub right in the city centre.”

Stantec planning director, Bernard Greep said: “This truly is a remarkable space in a fantastic location giving us room to quickly expand our technical and creative teams. We’re excited to use it to collaborate with clients on some of the most transformational built environment projects in this region and beyond.”

Emma Steel, water operations director for the North at Stantec added: “This impressive new office gives us the opportunity to support and reinforce the ambitious growth we’re seeing across our water business, especially in the stormwater space.”

Dan Mitchell, planning director, at Stantec, said: “We’ve enjoyed years of success from our Bridge Street and Oxford Road offices, but our rapid growth means we need to expand. 100 Barbirolli Square is the perfect new home for our friendly and professional teams in Manchester who will deliver vital development, resilience, and regeneration projects.”

JLL successfully advised Stantec on their latest move. Rhys Evans, associate director, from JLL said: “Stantec’s brief was to be centrally located, whilst being in a building which provided optimum flexibility for future growth. 100 Barbirolli perfectly aligns with Stantec’s aspirations for Manchester and provides easy access for staff and access to an abundance of outstanding amenities nearby.”

Savills and OBI advised landlord, AEW. Andrew Cowell of OBI and Richard Lowe of Savills said: “Demand for workspace at 100 Barbirolli Square remains buoyant as the scheme continues to attract occupiers searching for very well located, high-quality workspace with strong sustainability credentials and excellent amenities. We are actively engaged in detailed discussions with a number of new occupiers, and we anticipate completing the lease-up of 100 Barbirolli Square by the end of the year.”
